The official website states: « Due in part to the practice of arbitrary arrest and detention by the Iranian security and intelligence services, travelling to Iran today is risky. These services are, in general, very intrusive, particularly with regard to contacts between foreign nationals and the population, especially academia, which is under particular surveillance. The risks are aggravated by the persistence of regional tensions which may have repercussions on the situation in Iran. In this context, French nationals are strongly advised to postpone their professional or personal travel plans to Iran.
A desire for revenge on the part of Iran
Foreign Minister Javad Zarif described the attack as « an act of international terrorism ». President Hassan Rouhani said in a statement: « Iran and other nations in the region will take revenge for this horrific crime of criminal America ». Russia said the attack was a « murder » and a « reckless action » by the United States.
