Iberia celebrates the 70th anniversary of its flights from Paris to Madrid

Today, Iberia is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its flights to Paris. On July 1st, 1949, one of the Spanish airline’s DC4 Skymaster, a four-engine aircraft accommodating between 44 and 60 passengers, flew for the first time from Madrid to the French capital. Paris became Iberia’s 5th destination in Europe after Lisbon, London, Rome and Geneva.

To celebrate Iberia’s 70th birthday in France, the Spanish airline is launching a special offer for its Iberia Plus cardholders in France. They can now book its flights from Paris to Madrid until July 7th for flights from September 15th to December 1st, 2019, starting from 3,750 Avios per leg instead of the usual 7,500 Avios needed*.

Customers who buy a flight ticket from Paris to Madrid until July 7th to fly from September 15th until December 1st, 2019 will be able to triple the Avios they would usually receive for such a flight.

Iberia Plus will also award 500 Avios to those customers in France who become members of Iberia loyalty programme in July.

The airline will also promote this anniversary in its social media channels in Spanish and French.

The Iberia Group currently operates 398 flights from Bordeaux, Châlons-Vatry, Lyon, Marseilles, Nantes, Nice, Paris, Rennes, Strasbourg and Toulouse to Madrid. In 2019, it has opened a new route from Châlons-Vatry in the French Champagne to the Spanish capital, but it will also fly from Bastia in Corsica to Madrid in August with five return flights every week. Altogether, it will offer nearly 2.6 million seats in this market, an increase of 9% compared to 2018. Last year, the air group carried 22.35% more passengers between France and Spain than the year before.
