Why space houses are all the rage right now

More than 50 years after the first step taken by the man who famously said, « That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind, » Neil Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the Moon on July 21, 1969, at 2:56 UTC, a craze seems to be taking hold of those who want to rent or buy houses that resemble space shuttles or flying saucers.
Space has always fueled the human imagination.
A trend, once again originating in the United States, seems to be taking hold in the tourism landscape, one particularly felt by Airbnb: the attraction of some tourists to space housing, particularly for their vacations.
We already knew about space-themed hotels, such as the « Cosmos Station, » the Futuroscope themed hotel, « Le Grandepoint Central Espace » in Pattaya, or the projects of the Canadian company « Moon World Resorts » for Dubai and Las Vegas, but renting, or even buying, a space home is truly new.
While surfing the web or visiting Airbnb USA, here are some examples of what you can find:
Typical of futuristic accommodations from the 1960s, this 700-square-foot « Space Shuttle » can accommodate nearly eight travelers. Located in Brush Prairie, Washington State (USA), on 5 acres of rolling gardens in the heart of the rural Hockinson Hills.
Located in Joshua Tree National Park in California, Area 55 Futuro House, nestled in the middle of nowhere, is an ideal place to get away from it all.
You’ll need to pay just over €400 for one night.
A cosmic paradise in Pembrokeshire, near the sandy shores of Tenby and Saundersfoot in Redberth, UK.
Floating in a 4-acre estate, the cabin has all the amenities of a holiday home and can accommodate 4 guests, 2 bedrooms, 3 beds, and 1.5 bathrooms.
Inspired by the Apollo 11 space mission, which put man on the moon in 1969, this house will propel you into space after dark.
But for that, you’ll have to go to Pukaki, New Zealand…
It’s the only accommodation of its kind located in the Mackenzie Dark Sky Reserve at Pukaki Airport.
The spaceship is fully self-contained with a toilet/shower and sink/microwave. Perfect for photos! A truly extraordinary experience!
This trend seems to be gaining traction, as Capsule Castle, a company specializing in the creation of rocket-inspired capsule homes located in Qingzhou, China, launched its project in 2020.
It now has a team of 30 people and produces more than 50 homes per month.
This Space Age-style capsule home measures 28 m² and costs €15,000 (shipping, of course, not included).
These small prefabricated houses are delivered unassembled and can be assembled like Lego in just three days.
There are two construction options: a one-story house with one bedroom and one bathroom, or a more complete two-story house.
If you’re so inclined…
