Where does Melania Trump come from?

Born Melanija Knavs on April 26, 1970, in Novo Mesto, Slovenia (then part of Yugoslavia), she grew up in a modest family.

She began modeling at the age of 16 in Ljubljana before moving to Milan and Paris.

She settled in New York in 1996, under the guidance of modeling agent Paolo Zampolli.

She became a U.S. citizen in 2006, a year after her marriage to Donald Trump.

She is the only naturalized First Lady in U.S. history.

Why is she implicated in the Epstein affair?

The « scandal » is not related to any illegal activities on her part, but to the nature of the ties between the Trumps and Epstein’s circle in the 1990s and 2000s.

In December 2025, the DOJ released photos seized from Epstein’s home.

One of them shows Donald and Melania Trump posing alongside Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell at a party at Mar-a-Lago.

These photos fuel criticism about the actual closeness between the two couples.

According to some documents and testimonies from the time, Epstein boasted of having introduced Melania to Donald. Notes even suggest that Epstein claimed the couple had their first intimate encounter on his private jet, a claim the Trumps have always categorically denied.

Melania obtained a « Green Card » in 2001 through this program reserved for people with « extraordinary abilities » (researchers, elite athletes, world-renowned artists).

Many wonder how a model, admittedly active but not a « global star » at the time, could have met these very strict criteria.

Doubts have been raised about whether she worked illegally (on a tourist visa) during her first few months in New York before obtaining an H-1B work visa.

Her defense: In her memoirs published in 2024, Melania Trump firmly denied any connection with Jeffrey Epstein, stating that she only met him briefly at social events and was never part of his inner circle.
