Tourism : Spain confirms its leadership position


 

As far as the main international markets for Spain are concerned, the English were the most numerous tourists: 936,856 visitors
(+2.8% compared to the same month in 2017) and a market share of 20.6%.
The Germans were in second place, with 574,838 tourists (-3.0% compared to November 2017) and a market share of 12.6%.

More extra expenses

In November 2018, international tourists spent 4,890 million euros in Spain, representing an increase of 5.3% compared to the same month in 2017.
The average expenditure per tourist was 1,075 euros (+1.7% interannually), while the average expenditure per day was 155 euros (+12.4%).

The average length of stay was 6.9 days (-0.7 compared to the same month in 2017).

For the main international markets for Spain, the highest expenditure is for British tourists, with 896
million (+7.6%). This corresponds to a market share of 18.3%.

Their average expenditure per tourist was 956 euros (+4.7%) and their average expenditure per day was 133 euros (+15.0%). The average length of their stays was 7.2 days (-9.0%).

The Germans were in second place, with total expenditure of €616 million (-0.1%). This corresponds to a market share of 12.6%.

Their average expenditure per tourist was 1,072 euros (+3.0%) and their average expenditure per day was 128 euros (+4.7%). The average length of their stays was 8.4 days (-1.6).

A slightly declining French market despite everything

In November 2018, the French issuing market recorded a total of 480,741 tourists (-10.4% compared to the same period last year). France was the third largest international market for Spain (10.5% share).
