Tourism in Hungary is picking up again

The Hungarian tourism sector welcomed nearly 20 million visitors in 2025, exceeding the previous record set in 2024. In 2025, the growth in the number of visitors to commercial accommodation in Hungary was nearly 2.5 times higher than the average growth rate of European Union member states. The country surpassed not only the EU average, but also its main competitors, with a 12% increase in the number of foreign visitors to Hungary.

In 2025, more than 19.5 million people stayed in tourist accommodation establishments in Hungary, an increase of +7.3% compared to 2024.

These accounted for a total of 47 million overnight stays, an increase of +4.3% compared to 2024.

Added to this is the number of tourists staying in non-commercial and non-tourist accommodation (not included in official tourism statistics), which is estimated to contribute more than 400,000 additional visitors, bringing the total number of guests in the Hungarian hotel sector to 20 million.

Budapest’s exceptional performance has contributed significantly to these results.

After recording record growth during the 2024 World Championships, the city maintained its peak performance in 2025, welcoming more than 7.6 million visitors generating 18 million overnight stays.

This represents a 13% increase in visitor numbers and a 9% increase in overnight stays compared to 2024.

This growth is partly linked to the expansion of air links.

New development projects are planned for 2026 at Liszt Ferenc National Airport.

Spa resorts are on the rise

In the regions, spa resorts have recorded exceptional results.

Siófok leads the way in terms of overnight stays, followed by Hévíz and Hajdúszoboszló.
Balatonfüred and Bük are also among the most popular destinations.

Lake Balaton welcomed 3.4 million visitors, up 3% from the previous year.
