Sleeping on the Great Wall of China is now possible

Airbnb has just announced an exceptional night on the Great Wall of China. Next September, four lucky winners will each be one of the first people in thousands of years to spend the night on the Great Wall of China in a house located along the old part of the wall. This unprecedented level of access will enhance the Great Wall and promote sustainable tourism in China by focusing on efforts to preserve the heritage of the Wall and honour Chinese culture.

Known as one of the greatest architectural feats in human history, the Great Wall was built to protect Chinese states from raids thousands of years ago. Today, it is widely regarded as one of the seven wonders of the modern world, bringing together visitors from all walks of life.

« It was an honour to work with historians and curators in Beijing to bring this unique experience to the world. We are very proud to be part of this collective effort to highlight such an incredible site that now serves to bring people together instead of dividing them, » commented Nathan Blecharczyk, Co-Founder and President of Airbnb in China.

Far above the ground, travellers will enter their rooms, set up in a secular tower perched along the wall and offering a 360-degree view of the moon and stars. At sunset, the winners will enjoy an intimate gourmet dinner with several dishes, each representing a different aspect of Chinese culture. Dinner will be accompanied by a concert of traditional Chinese music, an Experience that can be booked all year round by all travellers to China.

After a night under the stars, the guests will leave for a hike at sunrise through the breathtaking landscapes of China while discovering the Great Wall, in the company of historians of the Wall. During the stay, each winner will also have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with Chinese culture through experiences available on Airbnb, such as making their own Chinese seal or fan calligraphy.
