No more big flops for the cops

Faced with a worrying rise in obesity within its ranks, the Royal Thai Police have launched a radical offensive with their national program dubbed « Bell Shot, » sending their most overweight officers to intensive fitness centers.

This program, which has already mobilized hundreds of officers across the country, imposes an iron discipline combining daily physical exercise, strict diets, and rigorous metabolic monitoring to transform the physique of the peacekeepers.

The authorities have a twofold objective: to restore an image of strength and discipline to the institution while ensuring that officers in the field are physically capable of responding quickly during pursuits or forceful arrests.

In these physical rehabilitation camps, participants undergo regular public weigh-ins and waist measurements, with progress meticulously recorded by specialized instructors.

This initiative comes as the country faces a rapid nutritional transition, making weight-related illnesses—such as diabetes and hypertension—increasingly common among sedentary civil servants.

While some criticize the method as humiliating, the police command maintains that athletic fitness is an essential component of the job, and officers who have successfully completed their transformation now become ambassadors of a new culture of well-being within Thai police stations.
