Pakistan : Thousands of shattered lives

Pakistan is currently experiencing one of the most severe humanitarian crises in its recent history, as it is hit by devastating floods that have already forced thousands of people to flee.

These flash floods, fueled by exceptional monsoon rains and the accelerated melting of Himalayan glaciers due to climate change, have submerged entire regions, sweeping away infrastructure, homes, and livestock.

In the hardest-hit provinces like Sindh and Balochistan, villages have been literally wiped off the map, leaving entire families homeless, without access to drinking water, and exposed to a major health risk due to the spread of waterborne diseases.

Faced with the scale of the disaster, local authorities and international NGOs are desperately trying to deliver food and tents, but access remains extremely difficult due to the destruction of hundreds of bridges and strategic roads.

The Pakistani government has launched an appeal for international aid to address what experts are already calling an « unprecedented climate catastrophe, » highlighting the region’s extreme vulnerability to global environmental disruptions.

As water levels continue to rise in some valleys, the absolute priority remains the evacuation of isolated populations and the establishment of temporary relief structures to accommodate displaced people whose numbers are constantly increasing by the hour, transforming the landscape into an inland sea and plunging the country into social and economic distress whose reconstruction will take years.
