Where to eat healthy and cheap food in Kuala Lumpur ?

Kuala Lumpur is a true paradise for budget-conscious foodies. In 2026, you can still eat heartily for 8 to 15 RM (approximately €1.60 to €3) per meal in hawker centers and street food stalls.

Here are the best neighborhoods and addresses for eating healthy and cheaply:

Bukit Bintang – The Nightlife Vibe

This is the tourist heart, but also a hotspot for street food.

Jalan Alor Food Street: This street transforms into a huge open-air market every evening. You can find everything here: satay skewers, grilled chicken wings, and seafood.

Lot 10 Hutong: An air-conditioned underground food court that brings together the city’s most famous stalls (often run by the same families for generations). Ideal for sampling Chinese classics.

Price: Expect to pay 10 to 25 RM for a full meal.

Chinatown (Petaling Street) – Traditional Chinese Flavors

The historic district is perfect for noodles or quick snacks.

Petaling Street Market: Among the clothing stalls, look for the small noodle stands (like the famous Koon Kee Wanton Mee) or the grilled tofu stands.

Mansion Tea Stall: Located a little further north (near Masjid Jamek), this is the legendary spot for a Roti Canai or a Roti Banjir (flatbread drenched in curry) for just a few ringgit.

Price: From 5 to 12 RM per dish.

Kampung Baru – Authentic Malaysia

This is a traditional village amidst skyscrapers, renowned as the birthplace of Malaysian cuisine.

Nasi Lemak Wanjo Kg Baru: An institution for enjoying the national dish, Nasi Lemak (coconut rice with anchovies, peanuts, and sambal).

Price: A basic Nasi Lemak starts at 4-6 RM. With fried chicken or beef rendang, expect to pay around 10-12 RM.

Pudu – The Local Breakfast
For a truly local experience, this is the place to go early in the morning.

ICC Pudu: A huge covered hawker center. It’s the perfect spot for breakfast or lunch: Hainanese coffee, soft-boiled eggs, kaya toast, and laksa curry.

Price: Very affordable, often less than RM10 per person.

Bangsar & Brickfields – Indian Cuisine

Sri Nirwana Maju (Bangsar): Famous for its Banana Leaf Rice (rice and vegetables served on a banana leaf with a mountain of condiments).

Brickfields (Little India): For Indian thalis and snacks like vadai or samosas.

Price: 15 to 25 RM for a full meal on a banana leaf.
