Cricket in India : These mistakes should never be made again in a match against Pakistan

In the historic cricket clashes between India and Pakistan, defeats by the Indian team (which is statistically dominant in ICC World Cups) are often attributable to recurring errors, exacerbated by the intense geopolitical and media pressure surrounding these matches.

Here are the main mistakes that India must absolutely avoid against its arch-rival:

Underestimating the Pressure and Over-hyping

The most crucial error is often mental. The India-Pakistan match is a global event.

India, as favorites in global tournaments (T20 World Cups and ODIs), has at times shown signs of nervousness and overcaution, allowing Pakistan, often playing as underdogs with nothing to lose, to dictate the pace.

Conversely, India must avoid the complacency associated with its historical dominance in World Cups, as occurred in the 2021 T20 World Cup defeat (Pakistan’s first World Cup defeat against India), where Pakistan’s aggressiveness caught India off guard.

Strategic Selection and Tactical Mistakes

Team composition and on-field decisions are vital.

India must choose its starting XI based on the playing conditions and the players’ current form, not solely on their past reputation.

It is crucial to field a team capable of dealing with Pakistan’s powerful attack (especially the fast bowlers).

Bowling Approach: Against the aggressiveness of Pakistan’s batting (especially in T20s), India has sometimes lacked discipline or variation in its lines and lengths.

It’s important to avoid giving away easy balls for boundary shots and to prioritize a tactical attack, making effective use of spin bowlers if the pitch allows.

Lack of Aggressive Batting: India must ensure that its top trio (top order) doesn’t collapse under early pressure and must maintain a high score rate, especially in the early stages (power play), to prevent pressure from building up in the middle of the innings.

The lack of quick rotation among the lower order batters is also a mistake to avoid.
