Deaths due to Covid-19 worldwide exceeded 700,000 last Thursday, of which more than 203,000 were recorded in Latin America, one of the regions most affected by the pandemic, according to World Health Organization (WHO) figures.
The countries with the highest number of deaths are the United States (156,000), Brazil (95,000) and Mexico (49,000).
The U.S. global alert, announced on March 19, warned its citizens to avoid all international travel; now the State Department is providing country-specific guidance.
« With improved health and safety conditions in some countries and potential deterioration in others, the (State) Department is reverting to its former country-specific travel alert system (with levels from 1 to 4 depending on conditions ), » the official statement said.
