Gulbahaar – Springtime of the Ragas


During this second evening the dance gives way to melody. Like the languid scent of jasmine, raga unfolds through the alaap – jor – jhala, and intoxicates its listener.

A raga is an emotion, a cosmic feeling, an atmosphere that enchants the mind, filling it with an aesthetic delight.

It expresses the laws of nature, allowing us to tune ourselves with their vibrations. By the penetrating force of the sounds, the precise harmonies used in a raga have a strong power of elevation and harmonization.
