Welcome to the Black Forest, Germany’s largest nature park

With its dense forests, spectacular peaks, mysterious glacial lakes and romantic valleys, the Black Forest is a destination not to be missed. Bordered by France and Switzerland, bordering Alsace, this German massif has everything to charm.

The Black Forest, a unique region in the world

Located in the southwest of Germany, the Black Forest offers mysterious and magical landscapes. Its 11,100 km² area allows lush spruce forests to extend to the north, while the Feldberg mountain range culminates at 1,493 m – is a must in the south. To the east are the high plateaus of Baar and to the west magnificent vineyards.

Thanks to the new Black Forest Biosphere Reserve, the holiday region can boast another record: with its national park and two nature reserves, the Black Forest is the largest protected area in the region.

Here, holidaymakers breathe in what is said to be the purest air in Europe. More than 23,000 km of hiking trails are available for amateurs and experienced hikers alike – whether it’s a multi-day excursion along the alpine peaks or just a short walk. Themed trails are marked out for families and allow, on the hottest days, to cool off in streams, lakes or in shady woods.

Freudenstadt and its huge trees as far as the eye can see

The beautiful city of Freudenstadt – an hour’s drive from Strasbourg – is situated on a mountain plateau, 730 m above sea level and offers an unlimited nature experience in the heart of the Black Forest. Located in the Black Forest National Park area, the city is surrounded by idyllic nature.

The certified « Tannenriesen » and « Kniebser Heimatpfad » (giant fir trees) hiking trails lead mostly on nature trails to the most beautiful places around Freudenstadt. Visit the largest fir trees in the Black Forest, enjoy the breathtaking view of the mystic Ellbach Lake, or the sensual scent of over 2,000 wild roses along Germany’s highest rose trail (« Rosenweg »)… an escape that awakens all senses.

Because a journey can also be made in the plate, the Black Forest offers local taste experiences in typical chalets – rustic and traditional in the middle of the forest – or modern with breathtaking panoramic views.
