Quark Expeditions has just announced that it transported clients to the emperor penguin colony on the remote Snow Hill Island using two twin-engine helicopters from the company Ultramarine.
“After months of meticulous preparation, the expedition team took off at dawn aboard our two twin-engine Airbus helicopters to drop off our guests at the famous emperor penguin colony,” said expedition leader Ryan McDevitt.
“Agility, efficiency, and above all, safety were the keys to the success of this operation, which undoubtedly provided our clients with an unforgettable experience,” added McDevitt.
Quark confirmed in a press release that, under the leadership of McDevitt, Captain Roy Laud, and lead pilot Jonny Mutch, this success marks the launch of the company’s 2025-26 Antarctic season.
According to the company, the expedition departed Ushuaia last Friday for the first of its two voyages to Snow Hill.
Captain Laud and his watch team piloted the Ultramarine through the Antarctic Strait and the Gulfs of Erebus and Terror, positioning the ship within 10 nautical miles of the Snow Hill colony.
Quark Expeditions stated that, as an operator of exclusively polar expeditions, this latest success at Snow Hill represents a significant milestone of which it is proud.
The company added that with its Snow Hill voyages now fully operational, it will continue to ramp up its Antarctic operations for 2025-2026, which include voyages to the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, the Falkland Islands, and Patagonia.
