Quebec opens its new Opémican National Park

Bordered by lakes Témiscamingue and Kipawa, Opémican National Park, located in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, in western Quebec, opened on June 22, 2019. This new park is managed by the Société des établissements de plein air du Québec (Sépaq), whose main mission is to preserve and enhance the province’s natural heritage. The largest outdoor network in Quebec, Sépaq promises a resourcing experience in the heart of nature thanks to this new offer.

Second national park in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, after Aiguebelle National Park, Opémican National Park is located in the Pointe-Opémican sector. Composed of vertiginous walls, rapids and natural banks, the park is distinguished by its rich historical and cultural heritage with its nine archaeological sites and Auberge Jodoin, one of the oldest buildings in the region. The presence of the Anishinabeg community also invites travellers to learn about Aboriginal traditions; a memorable experience.

Opémican National Park offers the opportunity to sleep on site with a campground and eleven « Étoile » ready to camp. Visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of sporting activities thanks to the network of trails and waterways: canoeing, kayaking, pedal boat, paddle, hiking and cycling.

Geology enthusiasts will have the opportunity to observe the Harricana Moraine, one of the largest glaciofluvial deposits in North America.
