Skateboard Deck Art in Northern Arizona

Located in Flagstaff, the Museum of Northern Arizona is hosting an exhibition until March 31, 2010, synonymous with diversity and unity entitled: Pivot: Skateboard Deck Art.
The exhibition brings together the works of artists, mainly from Arizona, all from different tribes and backgrounds, each having expressed their art on the same medium: a neutral skateboard.
From traditional sculptors to contemporary painters, the exhibited boards represent a turning point in Native American art, as the younger generation has combined traditional imagery and techniques with modern interpretations and paintings.
By bringing these artists together and working on identical canvases, the exhibition celebrates both the commonalities and differences between Native American traditions.
Most of the artwork will be available for sale at the Museum of Northern Arizona.
