Why Netflix will dominate streaming

The American streaming giant announced the acquisition of the media and entertainment group for $83 billion, acquiring its film catalog and the HBO Max service.

Netflix, founded in 1997 as a mail-order DVD lending service, announced on Friday, December 5, the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Warner shareholders will receive $23.30 in cash and $4.50 in Netflix stock for each share.

If it obtains the necessary approvals from competition authorities, the new entity will become the undisputed world leader in film and subscription streaming, with the streaming company HBO Max included in the deal.

The group co-led by Ted Sarandos will pay $72 billion (and $82.7 billion including debt) to acquire these highly sought-after businesses.

The media company Paramount Skydance, owner of the « Mission Impossible, » « Transformers, » and « Indiana Jones » franchises, was also in the running.

It would also appear that the company wrote a letter to Warner Bros to complain about the sales process, questioning its « fairness ».
