Why is Europe now adopting American kerosene ?

In a context of global energy tension, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has just lifted a historic barrier by authorizing the use of American Jet A kerosene throughout Europe.
Until now, the European Jet A1 standard prevailed due to its lower freezing point (-47°C compared to -40°C for American Jet A), a technical difference that limited the use of US fuel to transatlantic return flights only.
This pragmatic decision allows most of the continent—with the notable exception of Spain, whose local refining capacity covers its needs—to break free from its historical dependence on exports from the Persian Gulf and Kuwait in favor of a secure supply from the United States.
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) specifies that this transition poses no safety risks if it adheres to the strict protocols already proven in the United States, notably the use of antifreeze additives and increased monitoring of the duration of exposure to extreme cold during polar flights.
By facilitating these imports, Europe is removing a major logistical obstacle, as the production of Jet A1 by American refineries had previously been a costly and complex exception.
This regulatory integration now ensures complete fluidity of the kerosene market between the two continents, guaranteeing the continuity of European air traffic in the face of an impending global energy supply crisis.
