Uber Air by Joby : The era of flying taxis is already here

Urban mobility has reached a historic milestone with the official announcement of an integrated booking system allowing Uber users to order Joby Aviation’s electric air taxis directly from their app.

This service, called « Uber Air by Joby, » marks the culmination of a strategic vision initiated in 2021 when Joby acquired Uber’s Elevate division, thus inheriting cutting-edge demand simulation and multimodal operations tools.

In practical terms, if a journey is eligible, the app will offer a revolutionary combined solution: a car ride to the vertiport, followed by an air taxi flight to bypass traffic congestion.

These vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, designed to carry four passengers at a speed of 320 km/h (200 mph), have a range of 160 km on a single charge, promising silent and carbon-free urban transfers.

The operational launch is planned for this year in Dubai, the world’s first market to host these passenger flights, before a smoother expansion to New York, Los Angeles, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

To accelerate its expansion in the skies, Joby also acquired Blade’s passenger business in August 2025, allowing for the integration of commercial helicopter services into Uber’s offering as a transitional solution starting in 2026.

In the United States, although the FAA requires stringent certifications, Joby is approaching the final phase of the process with the confidence of having already completed more than 80,000 km (50,000 miles) of flight testing.

This partnership transforms Uber into a truly three-dimensional transportation platform, redefining the concept of time-saving for busy travelers worldwide.
