Sulemana Abdul-Samed—known globally by the alias « Awuche » and recognized as Ghana’s tallest man with his extraordinary 2.24-meter stature—passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 27, 2026, at Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) at the age of 33.
Suffering from Marfan syndrome and severe medical complications linked to his acromegaly—a form of severe gigantism causing continuous bone growth and serious cardiovascular issues—this kind-hearted giant from Gambaga, in the North East Region, was initially treated at the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu before being urgently transferred to the hospital in Tamale following a rapid deterioration in his health.
An immensely popular and beloved figure—both on social media and in his native country—for his humor, kindness, and dignity in the face of illness, Awuche was honored by his community during funeral arrangements quickly organized in Tamale, where his burial is being conducted in strict accordance with Islamic rites and traditions.
