Standing true to form, at the last IFTM-Top Résa trade show, the Attica region set up shop at the heart of Greece’s vast stand to showcase these numerous benefits to the French professionals who attended in large numbers.
And, like last year, Nikos Hardalias (right in the photo), the Governor of the Attica Region, made the trip to lend his support to his teams.
For him, the Attica Region, which is the largest of the Greek regions and home to nearly half of the country’s population, tourism is a vital economic and social resource.
As he himself says, « The participation of the Greater Athens and Attica Region in the Top Résa trade show in Paris is not just a nominal presence.
It is part of our overall plan and our targeted strategy for an Attica that is outward-looking, particularly competitive, and a major player on the European and international tourism map. »
He adds, « Tourism is not just an economic issue.
It is about culture, identity, development opportunities, and job creation. »

Indeed, Attica does not simply exist around Athens, the country’s capital. It is a vast region encompassing land, cities, and sea.
It is home to Greece’s largest port, the port of Piraeus, the gateway to all the islands. However, its maritime domain includes all the islands of the Saronic Gulf, including Hydra, Aegina, Poros, Salamis, and a little further afield, including the islands of Spetses, Kythira and Antikythira.
Attica also boasts a land mass as large as it is varied: plains, attractive beaches and seaside resorts, hills and mountains, a diverse agricultural landscape, and beautiful vineyards that are often overlooked but whose wines delight connoisseurs.
So many different areas around Athens are a real beckoning for savvy travelers to discover and explore at their own pace.
To all this, we must add the region’s latest attraction, and not the least, fabulous and festive Athens, which for millennia has represented the soul and heart of this country, a city that combines history and culture, offers the best of Greek hospitality and gastronomy, and can be a haven of relaxation or a place of lively celebrations, depending on everyone’s desires.
