Star City is the miniseries that will premiere on Friday, May 29th on Apple TV. It is a spin-off of the fifth season of For All Mankind. For All Mankind is an American science fiction drama television series created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert, and Ben Nedivi, and produced for the Apple TV streaming service.

« Star City » is the fifth season of « For All Mankind. » The series imagines a fictional narrative based on a historical event, illustrating what would have happened if the global space race had never ended.

The Pitch of Star City

The title refers to the Yuri Gagarin cosmonaut training center, nicknamed « Star City. »

This « city of stars, » which actually existed between 1963 and 2009, was a veritable small fortified city, jealously guarded from foreign eyes and influences, where the Russian space program was concentrated.

In an alternate reality where the Soviet Union is the first nation to set foot on the moon, the space race is recounted from the Soviet perspective, showing the lives of cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers in the Soviet space program, as well as the risks each of them took to propel humanity into a new era.

Why Watch Star City

The appeal of watching this eight-episode series lies first and foremost in the fact that, even though it’s fiction, it allows us to see the conquest of space from the other side of what was called, until the fall of the… “The Berlin Wall”: the “Iron Curtain.”

The series is a true espionage thriller that reimagines the Cold War with both realism and a certain freedom afforded by science fiction.
