Australian justice took decisive action on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, following a serious incident on board a Scoot Airlines flight from Singapore to Perth.
A 52-year-old Indian national was formally charged by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Western Australian Police Sexual Assault Unit for committing « non-consensual sexual acts » against a female passenger seated next to him during Monday’s flight.
The victim, whose courage was praised, immediately sought help from the cabin crew, who reacted swiftly by moving her to another seat for her safety.
The crew members then maintained constant surveillance of the individual while alerting federal authorities on the ground. Upon landing at Perth airport, the man was escorted off the aircraft by AFP agents for extensive questioning.
The charges against him are particularly serious: one count of non-consensual sexual intercourse, punishable by up to 12 years in prison, and three counts of indecent acts without consent, each carrying a potential sentence of up to 7 years.
In a statement released Wednesday, a spokesperson for Scoot confirmed the incident, emphasizing that passenger safety and well-being remain their top priority and that the individual was handed over to the appropriate authorities upon arrival.
This case serves as a reminder of the constant vigilance required during international flights and the close cooperation between airlines and law enforcement agencies to combat crimes committed in airspace by 2026.
