Ryanair is still suffering strikes in the UK and closes its base in Faro

British pilots of the low-cost airline Ryanair have given two strike notices, two days in late August and three days in early September. Its base at Faro airport is expected to be closed next year according to the PNC union, which had just announced a work stoppage for the end of the month.

Ryanair said he was disappointed by the threat of the pilots’ union: « less than 30 % of British pilots » having voted in favour of the strike, BALPA, which represents « less than 50 % of them« , therefore according to the low cost « has no mandate to disrupt its customers’ holidays and flights, especially at a time when British pilots are facing job losses due to Boeing 737 MAX delays in delivery and the threat of a Brexit without agreement« , a press release points out.

And to recall: last year, Ryanair’s 1250 British pilots accepted a 20 % salary increase. Senior captains earn up to £180,000 a year, more than competitors Norwegian or Jet2.
