Pattani shooting : Police call for calm

The police authorities of Kelantan State have just issued a firm and reassuring message to the local population and regional economic stakeholders. The police have solemnly assured the public that security along the international border separating Malaysia and Thailand, in the strategic area of Kelantan State, remains fully under control.

This is despite a recent violent armed attack targeting Thai police officers in the neighboring province of Pattani.

Kelantan Police Chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat officially stated that operational security measures at various border entry points and key transit areas had been immediately reinforced through increased electronic surveillance and the deployment of 24-hour tactical interception patrols, a continuous mobilization aimed at ensuring that no hostile infiltration or asymmetric threat could compromise Malaysian national sovereignty.

The senior official also indicated that his specialized units and border guards remained on high alert in order to simultaneously counter other recurring threats to the region’s stability, such as illegal immigration networks, transnational organized crime, smuggling of goods, and all other potential threats to internal security.

« The level of control and security at the country’s borders has not changed. » Existing measures remain strictly in place and have been optimized to guarantee the absolute protection of national sovereignty,” stressed Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, confirming the perfect bilateral coordination with Thai security forces to stifle any escalation of tensions or contagion of violence on either side of the demarcation line.
