New England Conservatory Continues 150 th Anniversary Celebrations with a « Salute to Tchaikovsky »

Tchaikovsky’s music is woven into the fabric of the world and specifically the United States. Imagine the winter Holidays without Nutcracker performances or the July 4th weekend without his Overture 1812. In honor of its 150th anniversary, New England Conservatory (NEC) presents an evening of music by Tchaikovsky for the 28th Annual Composer Celebration.

The event will be held on May 24, 2018 at 7:30 pm in NEC’s Jordan Hall. The evening includes a mix of acclaimed performers, NEC faculty, and highlights the New England Conservatory’s Preparatory School students who will open and close the event. Conductors, David Loebel and Jonathan Richter are to lead the NEC Youth Chorale and the NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra-showcasing 183 of Boston’s most advanced youth musicians.

[1]The NEC Youth Chorale is a highly celebrated mixed chorus for advanced singers in grades 9-12. Founded over 50 years ago, the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (YPO) is the senior-most orchestra at NEC’s Preparatory School and is comprised of gifted young musicians between the ages of 14-18. NEC Prep is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation.Every week, 1700 students from across New England-absolute beginners to the most advanced young musicians-participate in lessons, classes, and ensembles.

Guest artists are to include: The Verona Quartet, In Mo Yang, Leo Plashinov, Brannon Cho, Mikhail Svetlov (NY Metropolitan Opera), Tatyana Dudochkin, Yelena Dudochkin, Adam Klein (NY Metropolitan Opera), and Eugene Kaminsky.Temple University’s Music Preparatory Division, Youth Chamber Orchestra will also perform.

« I curated this year’s program to feature the Tchaikovsky pieces so beloved by myself and devotees the world over, » says Tatyana Dudochkin, internationally-acclaimed pianist and member of the Piano Faculty at NEC Preparatory School.

« The Prep student’s do an extraordinary job bringing Tchaikovsky’s incredible music to life. It is a testament to the strength of NEC’s youth program. » Dudochkin has served as the Founder and Director of the Annual Celebration of Composers concerts since 1991 and is also set to perform a number of the pieces. Renowned Boston radio personality, WCRB’s Ron Della Chiesa (Boston Symphony, Tanglewood, Classical Morning, Music America) is the event’s host.
