Major sweep in Kumasi

As part of a major offensive aimed at eradicating criminal networks and restoring public safety, the Kumasi Regional Police Headquarters conducted a large-scale operation resulting in the arrest of 54 suspected drug traffickers—an official action detailed in a statement released on July 15, 2026, by Police Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.

This significant sweep, designed to dismantle local distribution channels and reassure the public, led to the apprehension of a group comprising 49 men—including 38 Ghanaian nationals and 11 Malian citizens—and 5 women, all suspected of direct involvement in this illicit trade.

During searches of the various targeted locations, law enforcement officers seized a cache of highly addictive substances, notably confiscating hundreds of high-dosage Tramadol tablets: 70 (125 mg), 353 (225 mg), 85 (250 mg) of the « Tramaking » brand, 100 (250 mg) of the « Tramadol Royal » line, and 58 full boxes of « Tramaking 100 » (225 mg).

In addition to these synthetic opiates, the police also seized a large quantity of plant-based substances—comprising 268 transparent packets, 84 sealed transparent packets, and 15 gold-colored packets containing dried leaves resembling narcotics—along with a black polyethylene bag filled with suspicious seeds, six sealed rubber packages, and a final plastic container of suspected illicit herb.
