At the Convergence global gastronomy symposium, Danish Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt announced that the Ministry of Culture would study the possibility of officially recognizing gastronomy as an art form.
This initiative marks a shift in how gastronomy is perceived, moving from a simple craft to a cultural and artistic discipline, thus strengthening Denmark’s position as a leading culinary destination worldwide.
The announcement was made before an audience of 60 world-renowned chefs and more than 1,200 international and Danish guests, highlighting Denmark’s growing role as a hub of innovation at the intersection of gastronomy, culture, and creativity.
The Ministry will now examine whether gastronomic expression can be officially recognized as an artistic discipline.
If this comes to fruition, it could mark a historic milestone in Danish cultural policy and pave the way for a broader understanding of gastronomy as an art form, complementing Denmark’s internationally acclaimed culinary scene and enhancing the country’s appeal as a destination for gastronomic tourism.
