Industrial cannabis in Ghana ?

Ghana’s agricultural and pharmaceutical sectors are poised for a major economic shift following the official submission of eight operating license applications by private companies seeking to enter the regulated cannabis cultivation industry.

While appearing before Parliament’s committee, Interior Minister Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized the government’s strict roadmap, reiterating that the national legislative framework strictly prohibits recreational use and bans any indiscriminate or unregulated production of the plant within the country.

This economic opening targets exclusively industrial hemp and medical cannabis, strictly limiting authorizations to varieties with a tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content of 0.3% or less.

Through this rigorous control system, Ghana aims to attract strategic investments and capture new market share in the international biotechnology and eco-materials sectors, while ensuring absolute public safety and traceability at every stage of production.
