IHG launches Kimpton hotels in India

IHG Hotels & Resorts will add five properties in India, located in major cities and airport destinations, the company announced.

The planned properties, comprising nearly 1,500 rooms in total, include a Kimpton hotel in Jaipur, as well as Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels in Navi Mumbai on India’s west coast, Mangaluru on the southwest coast, and Thiruvananthapuram in the south, near the Arabian Sea.

IHG has signed an agreement with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd., a private airport operator in India, for the development and management of these properties.

Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels will open within the mixed-use complexes planned by Adani around its airports.

The Jaipur hotel will be the first Kimpton-branded property in India.

This agreement is part of IHG’s ongoing efforts to expand its presence in India, where the group currently operates 52 hotels and plans to open another 98 hotels in the next three to five years, according to IHG.

Other hotel groups, such as Hilton Worldwide and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, are also involved in the development of the Kimpton brand. Resorts are making similar efforts to expand in India, as economic growth and infrastructure expansion create new opportunities for hoteliers to capture business and leisure customers in the country.
