Displaced by the demolitions in Abidjan, where will they be rehoused ?

The Ghanaian government has activated a crisis unit to coordinate the humanitarian repatriation of 327 of its citizens, left without housing in Côte d’Ivoire following a large-scale demolition operation carried out by the municipal authorities of Port-Bouët, Abidjan.

According to an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, June 12, 2026, an initial group of 228 people returned to Ghana on Tuesday, June 11, while the necessary logistical arrangements were immediately finalized to ensure the imminent return of the remaining 99 citizens.

In order to guarantee the safety and dignity of its compatriots during this emergency cross-border transfer, the Ghanaian State chartered a special fleet of buses and transport trucks, mobilizing at the same time its social services to receive, take care of and facilitate the reintegration of these families severely affected by the loss of their property in Ivory Coast.
