Buenos Aires in the tempo of its tourism growth

The Argentine capital, « the city of all passions », welcomed 2 million visitors last year. The destination grew by 5.4% overall compared to 2017 (98,300 people).

Buenos Aires is a prime tourist destination. Its hundreds of bookstores, theatres, cafés and art galleries, its delicious cuisine, and the passion of its citizens for football and tango, are just some of the reasons why the Argentine capital is so attractive and increasingly popular with visitors.

With an average temperature of 23°C, December has seen the annual peak in attendance since 2012. In 2018, 217,000 people decided to discover the city during this period.

Among the main emitting markets in 2018, Brazil was in first place with 566,000 visitors (+5.3% more than in 2017), followed by the United States with 416,000 visitors (excluding the United States and Canada) and Europe with 402,000 visitors. In 2018, the total number of overnight stays was 20.1 million, 2.5 million more than the previous year.

Buenos Aires has an important weight in the Argentine tourism sector both nationally and internationally.

It makes France one of its preferred markets (the 3rd in Europe), especially since 27% of foreign students in Buenos Aires are French, which is the largest share in this segment.

To maintain its tourist development, the city’s tourist office is undertaking a broad communication plan that bodes well for the destination in 2019.
