Aviation news: Porter Airlines, Air Europa, Plus Ultra, American Airlines, easyJet, Volotea, Aerolíneas Siciliane, etc.

Air Europa will resume flights between Spain and Venezuela using Arturo Michelena International Airport in Valencia—a strategy already announced by Plus Ultra to bypass the closure of Maiquetía Airport in Caracas following devastating earthquakes.

LATAM is operating its first passenger charter flights utilizing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The operation, conducted in partnership with Ponant and comprising 13 flights, reduced CO₂ emissions by approximately 160 tonnes through the use of 22,400 gallons of SAF, marking another step forward in LATAM’s decarbonization strategy. This project is part of the LATAM Group’s climate change strategy, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 through fleet modernization, improved operational efficiency, SAF use, and—as a complementary measure—carbon offsetting that prioritizes nature-based solutions within strategic South American ecosystems.

British Airways and Toronto-based Porter Airlines will launch a codeshare partnership on July 8, allowing BA customers to book connecting flights within Canada in a single transaction, British Airways announced. Customers will be able to book flights to 17 Canadian destinations—including Ottawa, Edmonton, and Winnipeg—connecting from London via Toronto or Montreal. Additionally, British Airways Club members will be able to earn Avios and status points when flying with Porter Airlines, according to the airline.

American Airlines has announced that it will introduce modernized Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft into service this summer. The upgraded A319 fleet will feature 12 premium seats (up from 8), while the modernized A320 fleet will offer 16 premium seats (up from 12). According to American Airlines, the new premium seats on each aircraft type will also feature privacy wings, extra storage space, and dual drink trays.
American Airlines states that the premium seats will share a design and finish similar to those found on the Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A321XLR aircraft recently delivered to the airline. Additionally, the cabins of the retrofitted A319 and A320 fleets will feature power outlets at every seat and larger overhead bins.
Last January, American also began offering free high-speed Wi-Fi to American AAdvantage loyalty program members across its narrow-body, two-class aircraft fleets.

**easyJet** is launching two new routes to Luxor from Lyon and Nantes. These routes complement the existing service from Paris-CDG, which offers one weekly flight to Luxor.

**Volotea** is reaching a new milestone at Limoges Airport by inaugurating its new route to Oran, Algeria, today. The route to Menorca, Spain, has been operating since June 26, 2026. Flights scheduled for June 30 and July 2 will operate between Madrid and Valencia (Venezuela), maintaining the same schedule originally planned for the Caracas route.

**Aerolíneas Siciliane**, established in 2019, has just been liquidated. This week, the general meeting of shareholders approved the company’s dissolution and liquidation. CEO Luigi Crispino has requested an assessment of the liabilities of various administrative bodies and has assembled a legal team to initiate criminal proceedings.
