Bangladesh and Pakistan will resume direct flights after more than a decade, Dhaka’s national airline announced Thursday (January 8), as relations warm and regional power dynamics shift. Biman Bangladesh Airlines plans to operate its inaugural Dhaka-Karachi flight on January 29 and will run two weekly services, the first regular flights since 2012. Bangladesh and Pakistan, geographically separated by India by more than 1,500 km, were once a single nation. They separated after a bloody war in 1971.
Ethiopian Airlines has just announced the launch of a new passenger route with three weekly flights from Lyon, via Geneva, starting July 2, 2026. With the addition of Lyon, Ethiopian Airlines will expand its network in France to three destinations, joining Paris and Marseille, thus strengthening its presence in the country and in Europe, while improving connectivity in the region thanks to optimal connections for its customers.
Air France and KLM have each expanded their offerings with new distribution capacity to include inter-air flights with Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM announced. Although Delta has not yet launched its own NDC offerings, flights marketed by Delta can now be booked in combination with transatlantic flights from Air France and KLM through those carriers’ NDC channels « to destinations in North America, South America, and the Caribbean served by Delta, » according to Air France-KLM. When asked about this, Air France-KLM indicated that segments booked via NDC cannot be combined with segments booked via EDIFACT for the issuance of a single ticket through its NDC channels. However, transatlantic segments marketed by Air France-KLM, regardless of the operating carrier, can now be booked with flights marketed by Delta for travel to the Americas and the Caribbean when purchased through Air France-KLM.
Alaska Airlines has ordered 110 new Boeing aircraft, the largest order in its history, the airline announced Wednesday. The contract covers 105 Boeing 737-10s and five Boeing 787s, with an option for 35 additional Boeing 737-10s. Deliveries are currently scheduled through 2035. The value of the transaction was not disclosed. The five additional Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft, which Alaska Airlines plans to acquire in the 787-10 version, « will allow the airline to serve at least 12 long-haul international destinations from Seattle by 2030, » according to the carrier.
Alaska Airlines Group, which includes Hawaiian Airlines, began operating flights between Seattle and Tokyo Narita and Seoul Incheon in 2025, operated by Hawaiian Airlines. Alaska Airlines plans to launch year-round daily flights between Seattle and London Heathrow on May 21, as well as daily seasonal flights to Rome starting April 28 and to Reykjavik starting May 28.

Finnair is preparing to launch flights between Helsinki and Melbourne via Bangkok this October, expanding its long-haul network. The new daily service, operated by Airbus A350s equipped with economy, premium, and business cabins, will begin on October 25, subject to government approval, and will mark Finnair’s debut in Australia.
