A power plant is being transformed into an exclusive boutique hotel

The industrial heritage of Valletta’s Grand Harbour is poised for a major renaissance thanks to the signing of a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) agreement between Valletta Cruise Port and Valletta Bridge, a joint venture between CPHCL Group and Attard Bros Group.

This strategic partnership aims to restore and completely repurpose Malta’s first power station—an iconic 17th-century structure—which will be transformed into a high-end, mixed-use complex.

Located just steps from Malta’s capital, the cruise terminals, and the vibrant waterfront, this historic landmark will house an intimate boutique hotel with only 20 rooms, complemented by upscale offices, retail spaces, and restaurants.

Welcoming the start of this new era, Stephen Xuereb, CEO of Valletta Cruise Port, emphasizes that this project will ensure the long-term preservation of this architectural gem while actively contributing to the urban regeneration of the port area.

For his part, Jean-Pierre Schembri, CEO of CPHCL, said he was honored to lead this large-scale project, while Carl Attard, Managing Director of Attard Bros, reaffirmed his absolute commitment to carrying out a structural renovation that respects the period characteristics, while aligning it with contemporary requirements of safety and sustainability, an investment for the future that promises to diversify and enhance the high-end tourism offering of the Maltese archipelago.
