North Korea opens Mount Paekdu to foreign hikers

North Korea has allowed foreign tourists to hike and camp at the famous Mount Paekdu, located on the Chinese border. The country is currently seeking to boost its tourism industry.

Four travellers from Australia and Norway are the first to benefit from this unprecedented measure.

According to information published in the foreign media, the hermit kingdom took such a decision on the advice of New Zealand mountaineer Roger Shepherd. He opened a travel agency in South Korea specializing in high mountain climbing in the peninsula.
